Training 6/4/07-6/25/07

Basically I got really out of it. First injury took biking away from me, and then Kangway left, and then Ian broke his shoulder. Man I feel like everything is breaking down. Oh and did I mention my stress fracture has healed, only to reveal a deeper, possibly more serious problem: a Morton's Neuroma. It's when the nerves to your 2nd and 3rd toes gets repeated traumatized to they point that they swell and harden, forming a tumor like thing that gets pissed when ever you run too much. Basically right now I am trying to control it with anti-imflammatories and consistent icing. Soon I will try running, really slowly carefully. Sometime in the next 2 weeks I will get a cortisone shot. Hopefully this will bring it to the level where it can be managed until I am allowed to get my next cortisone shot. I don't want the surgery and will try everything possible to keep the neuroma manageable, but I have come to face with a problem that will be with me for the rest of my life. I just hope I can run competatively again...

I took of another week from the biking injury, got a new anatomical special male seat, lowered it slightly and began to bike again this past week. I rode about 100 miles last week, just getting back into it. The new seat seems to have fixed a lot of problems, which is very encouraging. Starting this Friday, I have moved aggressively back into cycling

6/22/07- Rode up Big Tujunga Canyon from Caltech. Wanted Easy 50 mile ride, got very hard 50 mile ride. First you have to climb over 1000 feet on Foothill into Verdugo Hills, and descend it all going into Sunland. Then the climb, which ascends to 3700 feet, is not direct, and descends over 1000 feet of it in various places. Did I mention it was 105 degrees. Went through 4 water bottles.

6/23/07- Went to Malibu, did some light open water swimming

6/24/07- Rode up GMR from Caltech, descended by way of E fork + 39. Ran into road closures from huge accident. A car went off the cliff on the 39 and into the damn. A 17 year old girl died. Scary... Otherwise excellent ride.

Miles: 63 ~3500 vertical feet

6/25/07- Went on the Chevy Chase loop except went up Mountain Street in honor of Kangway. It was super steep, climbed over 1500 steep vertical feet all together. Took just under 2 hours.

Miles: 26, ~1500 vertical feet.

Maybe I will run tomorrow morning on the North Field super easy. Ice like crazy take a least 1 day off afterwards.

3rd Week 'Training" if you can even call it that

Week 3

6/3/07- Mt. Wilson with Tim. Legs felt fresh ( I wonder why??). Flated twice in the first hour, then broke shifter for front derailuer. Didn’t eat enough and bonked at the end. Otherwise okay. Need to put in more mileage.

Miles: 55

6/4/07- Decided to take some time off biking due to some ‘male’ soreness. Jogged 4 laps around north field. Felt fine. By the last lap maybe traces of pain, not sure. Swam 1000 yards. Felt fine that night

Miles : 1.3 (running)

6/5/07- Ran with Ali around the North field 6 laps + .5 laps cool down. No pain at all. Legs decently sore.

Miles: 2

6/6/07-Ran 3 miles on north field including the jog down from the house. Felt a the tiniest bit sore, but not swollen

Miles-3

6/7/07- Exam stuff. Foot feels alright. Went to doctor about gonads, said I have mild trauma and should lay off biking for a week.

Miles-0

6/8/07- Foot a bit sore, probably from mileage jump. Took the day off and iced, felt alright afterwards. Talked to Peter about how mismanagement of foot stress fractures led to the end of his professional career and running for life. Maybe I should be a bit more cautious

6/9/07- Swam 2500 yards. Foot feeling decently better

More Training

Week 2

5/27/07- Rode to beach trip. Pushing wind out of our way the whole time. 3:20 ride time, 4 hours total. 50 miles almost exactly.

5/28/07- Biked to Chantry Flat with Matt Kiesz. Kept asking me if I wanted to get down.. He rocked me on the climb, but I felt pretty good. Passed the fool on the descent, along with two cars.

Miles: 25

5/29/07- Busy with homework, got to the gym late. 8x50 m plus 8x25 butterfly plus some light warm up and cool down. Took 45 minutes.

5/30/07- Pulled all nighter and then went on Ge 1 field trip to Dunes. Hiked up a lot in the sand. Foot felt pretty good.

Miles: 0

5/31/07- Biked Chantry. Went at a pretty good pace, legs were rested.

6/1/07- Busy studying, was fat and lazy. On the plus side my Ge 1 final went okay

6/2/07- Was so disgusted with self, stuffed face with cookies for 7 hours. And by eating cookies I mean reading anthropology papers.
